There is much speculation as to who Liverpool are going to bring in this summer following their Premier League Triumph.

The Reds will be hoping to bolster their squad in hope they can defend their champions status come next year.

Arne Slot’s side have already been linked with plenty of names including Bournemouth duo Dean Huijsen, 20, and Milos Kerkez, 21, plus Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

But a new name has been thrown into the mix as Sky Sports report that Liverpool, along with a lot of other clubs have an interest in Aston Villa talent, Morgan Rogers.

The former Man City academy graduate has scored 14 goals and assisted 11 from midfield this season in all competitions and has been at the centre of Villa’s success over the past year.

Whilst it feels strange to suggest that this Liverpool team needs improvement, having just won their 20th league title, Rogers is certainly an addition that is bound to make a positive impact if they are to bring him to Anfield.

Here’s why:

An ever present in the Premier League

Rogers has missed just one game in the league this season. He has started all 33 of the games he has appeared in. The only game he didn’t appear in was in his team’s 2-1 win against now relegated Leicester City and this was because of a suspension he was serving.

The former Middlesbrough man has played 2,778 minutes this season, a figure that is only bettered by Youri Tielemans for Villa this season.

Attacking input

The 22 year old has been a key for Villa from an attacking perspective this season. He has a total of 16 goal involvements in the Premier League this season, only Ollie Watkins (22) has more.

Stats from Opta show that from midfield, he has created 45 chances for Villa in the league, Tielmans (60) is the only player who has bettered this number for Villa this season.

A vital cog in the Villa team

Whilst Rogers provides Villa with an ever present attacking threat, he also gives them immense security from a defensive perspective.

According to Opta, the midfielder has won 142 ground duals with a success rate of 41.8% this season. He has also won possession on 103 occasions and made 35 tackles in the centre of the park for Unai Emery’s team.

Superb work rate

You can not knock the effort the 22 year old puts in week in week out for his side, averaging 8.67km in the UEFA Champions League this season. Rogers possesses considerable strength and running power with a forward thinking mentality and an excellent technique that boosts the team going forward.

Among similar players, Opta states that Rogers is the highest in terms of how long is progressive carries are up the pitch (13.1m). This is something that suits Villa’s counter attacking style of play and has worked a treat for the likes of Watkins who has enjoyed feeding off the midfielders style of play this season.

He is still young and fairly inexperienced at this level but you can’t doubt the impact he has brought to this Aston Villa side.

There is clear reasoning as to why the Premier League champions are keeping an eye on the youngster as they look to add to their already impressive squad in the summer.
