Finlay Sinclair Smith scored the only goal as Marine ended Spennymoor’s seven game home unbeaten streak.

Marine overcame a serious amount of pressure and put in a gutsy performance to take home all three points against Spennymoor.

It was a fast start to the game with the hosts coming out of the blocks quickly as they put Marine under pressure in the opening stages.

The attacking intent from Spennymoor was evident when Glen Taylor broke into the penalty area in the third minute only to see his effort blocked by Shaw.

Moors continued to cause the Mariners problems at the back as the first half developed.

Corey McKeown came close after he skipped past Brown and unleashed an effort goalwards only to see it strike the left hand post.

After half an hour played the game began to open up but it was the hosts who continued to create the better chances.

Andrew Wogan, who recently returned to Marine, was forced into making a super save after Glen Taylor’s close range effort.

Just before the half time whistle Spennymoor hit the woodwork for a second time, this time it came from Taylor leaping highest in the six yard box.

Marine came out on the front foot in the second half as they looked to take the lead in the game.

Two minutes into the half, debutant Sam Fielding hit the woodwork, leaping highest at the back post only to see his effort smash against the frame of the goal.

The hosts continued to push forward like they had done in the first half as they penned Marine into their own half.

Two opportunities for the hosts came from free kicks with both Taylor and Matty Dolan seeing efforts come agonisingly close to the target.

In the 69th minute, Sinclair Smith opened the scoring.

The number 20 found himself in behind the Moors defence and coolly placed the ball past Brad Jones and into the back of the net.

Moors looked to respond after going behind but the Mariners defence led by Chris Doyle kept out any threat put on by Spennymoor as they held on for all three points.

Tonight’s win sees Marine move up to 18th in the league having won three games on the bounce.

Neil Young’s side now look ahead to Saturday’s game at home to Hereford.
