Marine’s nine game unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Scarborough on the North East coast.
A hat trick from Stephen Walker and a James Butler own goal saw the hosts take all three points after a four-one victory on a cold afternoon in Yorkshire.
Both teams started quickly and had chances in the opening stages of the game.
Shots from Finlay Sinclair Smith and Jack Hazlehurst caused no concern for Ryan Whitley with both efforts going wide of the target.
The Boro’s first chance fell to top scorer Dom Tear. After escaping the challenge of James Brown, the forward’s following shot was a comfortable save for Max Metcalfe.
Neil Young’s team continued to create opportunities in the final third and found an opening from a corner.
Hazelhurst whipped a wicked ball into the box, which found the head of Butler whose header left Whitley with no chance to stop his powerful effort as Marine creeped in front.
An equaliser for the hosts came in the 44th minute thanks to Walker.
The striker was able to win a free header in the box which nestled into the back of the net.
In the second half, it was the hosts who came out on the front and they grabbed a second just two minutes after the restart.
Almost a carbon copy from the first, Walker was able to nod home his second of the afternoon after a cross was sent into the box.
A definite equaliser in the 50th minute was superbly prevented by Whitley as he rushed in to deny Josh Wardle from close range.
The hosts then added a third in the 57th minute after Walker wrapped up his hat trick from the penalty spot after Butler brought down Tear in the box.
After giving away a penalty, Butler’s luck went from bad to worse after his touch found the back of his own net to gift the hosts a fourth in the 75th minute.
After a disappointing afternoon, Young will be hoping for an improved performance when they head to Chorley away from home next Saturday.
