Scottie Scheffler has picked up his fourth golf major after his unscathed Open Championship victory on Sunday afternoon.
The world number one has received plenty of praise from many golf watchers after his victory and has also received Tiger Woods comparisons after claiming the Claret Jug with ease.
Scottie Scheffler, 29, claimed his first Open Championship victory at Portrush and adds to his two Masters wins in 2023 and 2024, as well as the PGA Championship, which he claimed earlier this year.
Phil Mickelson praises Scottie Scheffler’s iron shots in Open Championship victory
Phil Mickelson, the winner of six major championships, including the British Open in 2013, was one of the first to send his congratulations to his fellow American.
After Scheffler’s win, he said: “Congrats to Scottie Scheffler on another impressive victory. So many iron shots were amazing, and what a putting performance.”
Like Mickelson, more of Scheffler’s peers were astonished by how well he played.
“I don’t think we thought the golfing world would see someone as dominant as Tiger come through so soon, and here’s Scottie sort of taking that throne of dominance,” said Xander Schauffele.
Scheffler has been the world’s number one golfer for nearly three years, and it’s a run that is unlikely to end soon.
The Open victory became the third leg of a career grand slam for the 29-year-old, who will look to complete this feat before he turns 30 next year at the US Open.
What’s next for Scottie Scheffler after Open Championship victory?
Whilst there is a career grand slam on the cards for Scheffler, he will be hoping to end 2025 on a high after an already successful year.
With the Ryder Cup returning to the US this year, the American will be hoping he can help his country reclaim the trophy after Team Europe were victorious in 2023.
Scheffler made his debut for the USA in 2021, where his team routed Europe 19-9.
The 29-year-old secured a win in his singles match against the world number one at the time, Jon Rahm.
