Marine suffered their second defeat of the season as they were beaten 2-0 away to Alfreton.
Goals from Adam Anson and Max Hunter saw the hosts claim their first three points against Bobby Grant’s side.
It was the home team who started positively and they almost found a breakthrough in the 13th minute as William Fewster saw his effort well saved by Matteo Spinelli.
An early blow for Marine came when James Butler hobbled off the field in the eighth minute after coming together with Siya Ligendza.
The Mariners however began to grab a hold of the game as the first half progressed, and they started to produce a few chances.
The first of these fell to Finlay Sinclair Smith who cut inside and unleashed an effort on the edge of the area only to see his shot saved by George Willis.
The Alfreton goalkeeper was then later forced into producing a fine save to deny Matty McDonald from close range as he tipped the number ten’s effort onto the crossbar.
Clumsy defending from Marine led to the hosts finding an opening after 36 minutes, when Hunt stabbed home from a corner delivery into the bottom corner.
The Mariners came out the blocks quickly after the interval but like much of the second half, couldn’t create enough chances to trouble Willis in goal.
A sucker punch came in the 82nd minute when the hosts scored against the run of play to give them a two goal lead.
With Marine unable to clear their lines from a trademark Adam Lund long throw in, it fell to Anson who put home his side’s second of the afternoon.
A deflated Marine was unable to provide a response after going two behind and the home side kept the points at home.
Grant’s side now look ahead to Saturday when they return to the MTA to face Peterborough Sports where they will want to bounce back from Monday’s disappointment.
